As noted in the previous comment, the Church will be forced by the Historical Commission in Cambridge to use the same footprint and to replace the building with one which look practically the same. I guess the windows and doors could be moved a few feet in one direction or the other, but the structure replacing our beloved chapel will have to look the same. After all, this is one of the most highly prized Historic Districts in the City, and not much change will be allowed. I feel certain (to about 98%) that the steeple will look the same, at least in proportion to the building and not be allowed to be "flashy" to anything prominent. I miss it too. I wasn't there when the fire broke out.....and I couldn't bring myself to drive to the site for about four days, knowing how emotionally attached I felt to that building and place. Now I have peace and confidence in the fact that the City of Cambridge will have more to say about the replacement (building) than will the monolith of the SLC Church. I breathe more easily in that knowledge.

We feel the same way. We can't believe that church is gone. I hope that it will be rebuilt. Thankfully it is in Cambridge in a historic district. Which means that the historical society will probably force it to have the same footprint and a lot of the same exterior. Here's hoping! (Now if we could just get a wonderful pipe organ back in there with Lansing playing it.)

My brother feels exactly the same way. He couldn't even talk about it on Sunday. Brick and mortar just isn't just brick and mortar. I think there's something very beautiful when there is a physicality and a location to mark profound experiences.

The chapel of my childhood burned to the ground--lightening strike--just a little over a year after we had saved and slaved to get it built. It was back to meeting at our old Jewish Synagogue again until it could be rebuilt. So I grew up belonging to the church in the community that "God" had struck with lightening.

That experience doesn't even compare to yours. I'm sure your heart had to have some heavy about it. HUGS!

Kirsten, it's been a while to peek in your blog and to feel your breathing. This last weekend to today, I've been constantly reminded the blessings I have been given so freely. Your message was one great reminder. What a courage and a fight for those women who have been taught and treated as they are nothing. When I think about what I am supposed to do in my life, I am stunned at how little I can do in the world we know. Though I would not belittle my part. I pray for those women as well, knowing my prayers are listened. Oh, Kirsten, I am overwhelmed with gratitude this morning!! -Masako, with an urgency to give you a big hug!

Bruce is the best. Not only is Bruce the best, but my favorite Bruce song is "Thunder Road." I can be found singing it around the house. Of course it is a little funny for me....

Mary's dress sways...."

TOO fun! What a great way to celebrate your birthday. ROCK it, baby. I really like the line, "he seduced me with his knowledge of Bruce."

My Sunday nights have not been the same since I moved too far away to bust in through your door for some crazy good laughs.

Hi!
Hope all is well with you! Have you been working on any quilts? I should finish mine from the retreat, but haven't done so yet. Always too much other stuff to do.
I found your blog when looking up something about Becky. :(
I was thinking about her because we'd hang out together at the Chicago quilt show. I'm unsure if I'm going this year.
My blog is here: www.birdsongbows.blogspot.com . It's more dedicated to my side business, but I put some other stuff on there as well. :) Deanna McCool
